GOES WITHOUT SAYING, 2024

Description

Goes Without Saying, 2024

In Goes Without Saying, Langford confesses to seeing love coming—and becoming skilled at dodging it. Incoming attempts at closeness become obstacles to navigate, each successful evasion offering the satisfaction of another level cleared.

The work presents a gamified, glorified snapshot of his attempts at loving and being loved. Like Pac-Man, he keeps moving, reading the approaches, finding an opening.

There is pleasure in the maneuvering, enough to delay the question of what winning would actually mean.

As love grows too large to avoid, the space for escape narrows. Eventually, he will crash into it. Stumble into affection, care, or recognition before he has time to prepare another exit.

The title holds the confession quietly: what goes without saying can remain unspoken for years, even while every move reveals it.
