AGENT ORANGE, 2025

Description

Agent Orange, 2025

Before he had a name, he had a home in someone.

In Agent Orange, Langford reflects on the birth of a golden child—and the mother whose body became his first becoming. Here, gold is still gathering itself. Incubating. Learning how to receive before it is ever asked to shine.

The work considers how much of a mother a child carries before he can carry himself. Her warmth. Her worry. The dreams she whispers toward a life she has yet to meet. Two hearts sharing quarters, each preparing for a different kind of birth.

Langford locates the beginning of selfhood within this shared existence, where the child’s becoming is held by a body undergoing its own transformation. Birth changes the conditions of their closeness, opening a lifelong negotiation between holding and allowing.

The child will leave her body. Their relationship will spend a lifetime learning what it means to make room.
